Introducing Wofa 🎉
Introducing Wofa, Programme Associate at Foundervine

Foundervine started in 2018 as a small group of founders that shared a passion for entrepreneurship and technology. This community has become an important place for founders to connect, learn, grow, and collaborate with each other.

As such, we wanted to introduce you to members of our team so you can get to know who we are, what we do, and how we can help you on your journey.

So what’s your name and what’s your role at Foundervine?

Certainly! My name is Wofa Ishmael Ofori Aboagye, though most people affectionately call me Wofa. At Foundervine, I serve as a Programme Associate.

What motivated you to join Foundervine?

As a former startup founder, I’ve faced my share of challenges. The journey was often hindered by inadequate access to resources, limited networking opportunities, and difficulties in attracting investors. These obstacles can be daunting stumbling blocks for any founder with big dreams, making the leap into entrepreneurship seem insurmountable.

Having navigated these hurdles myself, I felt a strong calling to help others avoid the same pitfalls. When I had the opportunity to return to consulting, my sole prerogative was to support founders.

After one of those heavy days of work, I came across the book Founders at Work: Stories of Startups’ Early Days by Jessica Livingston. The book contains revealing interviews with 32 tech founders, including Max Levchin of PayPal, Steve Wozniak of Apple, Caterina Fake of Flickr, and Charles Geschke of Adobe.

It presented a new dimension of the challenges these founders faced. However, what stood out to me was that the majority of these founders did not look like me. As a Black person, I questioned who was telling the stories of such entrepreneurs and who was providing them with support.

Foundervine emerged as the perfect platform. It provided the right blend of resources, networking opportunities, and support for founders from all backgrounds.

Joining Foundervine was a natural step for me, as it aligned perfectly with my passion for fostering innovation and growth within the UK startup ecosystem.

When you are not with Foundervine, what do you do?

Life, in all its complexity, hinges on a delicate balance. Scientists often describe Earth’s atmosphere as a finely tuned system, maintaining the precise conditions necessary for the sustenance of life. This intricate equilibrium is a marvel of nature.

Reflecting on the universe’s balance, I find parallels in my own life. Much like the Earth’s atmosphere, my life outside Foundervine is a blend of diverse activities, each contributing to my overall well-being. I immerse myself in various pursuits: playing tennis, going bowling, hitting the gym, and enjoying the vibrant nightlife through clubbing. These activities provide a balanced mix of physical exertion, social interaction, and relaxation, essential for maintaining my personal equilibrium.

One of my cherished passions is cooking, which serves as a profound source of stress relief. There’s something deeply satisfying about crafting a meal from scratch, especially when it involves preparing traditional dishes like Ghanaian jollof rice. I take immense pride in making the finest jollof, a dish that not only connects me to my cultural roots but also brings joy to my little nephews, who delight in every bite.

Any side hustles? What are the key things you want the Foundervine Community to know about you?

I am passionate about giving back to Africa’s tech ecosystem. This is not a side hustle — it’s my way of contributing to the community.

I serve in advisory roles and volunteer regularly. This year, I am excited to volunteer with Mu, an initiative that creates cypherpunk, permissionless, dev-focused pop-up cities with a blockchain emphasis across the world.

What’s your plan for the next five years?

While we cannot precisely forecast what lies ahead, we do have the power to shape our path towards the future we envision. For me, the next five years are a canvas on which I plan to paint a picture of growth, learning, and innovation.

I aspire to become a young, articulate professional equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in an ever-evolving world. My journey will lead me back to the entrepreneurial ecosystem, where I am eager to immerse myself as a founder and venture capitalist. My goal is to develop ground-breaking inventions that not only stand out as unique but also propel the industry I am passionate about to new heights.

We’re building the greatest and most diverse community of digitally enabled businesses globally. Our plan over the next five years is to continue to grow a community just for you — one that connects you to people, networks, and knowledge that you need to grow a successful venture. We look forward to you joining the Foundervine Community. Sign up for our newsletter here!
